As a Matter Of Black Art Exhibition returns for Another season at MUCE. From the Great Migration to the roaring 20's, As A Matter Of Black explores the accomplishments and challenges of the past 100 years of the African American Experience. Curated by Bart Mervil And Ashlee Thomas, this exhibition includes art works from Sophie Wong (Sona), Doba, Enrin Annick Duvivier, Kendrick, Anthony Lumpkin, and Black RaasaaJii. This exhibition is produced by MUCE and was made possible in part by the Knight Foundation.

No More Blues is a compilation of images by photographer Sandino Teme, of a 2013 protest ignited in response to the murder of Trayvon Martin. The protest and exhibition mark an important contribution to the dialogue of the value of Black life in America and around the globe. More importantly, this exhibition captures the zeal, tenacity, and fearlessness of young individuals conveying a message of urgent change and immediate action. Seven years after this exhibition, The American people find themselves back on the front lines of a movement for social justice with the demand for eradication of a systematic virus that gives way to violence against black bodies with no accountability. The justice movement at present is intertwined with an impending economic crisis and global pandemic, bringing clear awareness to the cultural inequities caused by racism. The resounding call for No More Blues from the boys in Blue continues to be relevant in 2020 as the core foundation of why this injustice exists has yet to be eradicated. Systematic racism, set in motion during slavery, reconstructed and reestablished through Jim Crow, lives on through its descendants. It must be dismantled if Black (and Brown) people are ever to be free. The exhibition No More Blues is my contribution to the movement for social justice. May there be a time in history more peaceful than now. This is the last stronghold for civil discourse.

The Nanny Series: an exhibition combining the use of surrealist painting and postcolonial theory to explore the invisible voices of the domestic worker, most especially the nannies. Featuring the work of Laura James and Sona Wong, curated by Bart Mervil of MUCE. Once an experience well known to the African American woman from slavery through the late 60's, the job has since passed to immigrants seeking opportunities for their families. It's a story rarely heard in the mainstream and speaks directly to the current climate on immigration, human trafficking, and gender identity.

MUCE had the AMAZING opportunity to bring a 3 day fun-filled art experience to 500 residents of the rich city of Richmond Heights, August 2nd – 4th. Thanks to the SBC Community Development Corporation, students from 5 surrounding summer camps participated in gallery tours hosted by the MUCE team Lisa Nellicliff & Ashlee Thomas.
